Steel

In the context of knives, Steel refers to a specialized form of the metal alloy designed for optimal cutting performance. While the basic definition of steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, knife steels are specifically formulated to meet certain performance criteria, important for blades such as Edge Retention and Hardness, Toughness, Corrosion Resistance and Ease of Sharpening.

Micarta

a composite material commonly used for knife handles. Made by layering and compressing fabric or paper with thermosetting resin, the result is a solid, durable composite material resistant to moisture, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations. Micarta handles offer a secure grip and excellent durability and are available in a variety of colours, patterns, and textures.

Leather

Leather is a durable and flexible material made by tanning animal hides or skins. The tanning process stabilizes the protein fibers in the hide, making it resistant to decomposition and wear. This treatment transforms raw hides into a material that can be used in a wide range of applications. We use leather throughout our curved stacked handles.

Brass

Brass is an alloy primarily composed of copper and zinc. Typically, the copper content ranges from about 55% to 95%, with zinc making up the remainder. The specific ratio can be adjusted to achieve desired properties such as strength, malleability, and corrosion resistance. Brass is prized for its attractive, gold-like appearance, which makes it popular for decorative applications, such as in our bolsters and pommels.
