Description
Picture a breakfast gathering, where friends and family come together to share moments while enjoying fluffy pancakes, steaming baked bread or homemade granola – mostly complemented by freshly brewed coffee. These simple yet profound communal rituals primarily rely on two ingredients: cereals and coffee. Used coffee grounds and grain husks emerge as by-products and are typically considered waste.
Laura Lynn Reyes, the founder, is a designer based in Zurich, Switzerland. Working on gastronomic projects raised her awareness of the by-product of food production: organic waste. Intrigued by raw aesthetics and tactility, she began questioning, "Can design help us understand waste as something valuable?" and "How can this value become visible and tangible?" At NOM.0, Laura Lynn explores these questions by blending material experiments, craftsmanship, and design practices.

Care
NOM.Object biomaterials are crafted from natural components and coated with a protective layer of linseed oil for limited water protection. These knives are designed as collectible conversation-starting pieces rather than everyday utensils, and their compostable biomaterials need special care.
To best preserve the biomaterial handle:
• Do not place in the dishwasher
• Focus cleaning on the blade, avoiding water contact with the handle whenever possible
• If the handle gets wet, gently dry it with a soft cotton cloth and let it air dry completely
• Maintain the handle's protection by occasionally applying a fresh layer of linseed oil
To best preserve the blade:
Do not place in the dishwasher. Wash using a mild detergent and a non-abrasive sponge. Store in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid cutting on glass, metal, ceramic, or bamboo surfaces to prevent blade dullness. Before extended storage, apply mineral or camellia oil to the blade and handle using a cloth.
Do not work with dull knives. Sharpen them often to professional standards. For sharpening services and workshops, contact our friends at thesharpening.shop
